Artist Donna Sallee

Photographer Mark Potter at Piper Gallery

Art enthusiasts who are familiar with Donna’s work consider her to be Florida’s most versatile fine artist. “The intersection of the everchanging colors and patterns that move around us are my inspiration,” she says. Her unique perception of the sometimes-hidden beauty of nature has granted her a special gift allowing her to capture that beauty on her canvas

Her several thousand commissions span the America continent and cross the seas. She is known for her elaborate and colorful murals and paintings. Her work beautifies palatial homes in South Florida and yachts on the high seas.  Her credits include the art at Aruba Beach Café, the lobby of the beachfront High Noon Hotel in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea; a major artistic role in the restoration of 4 stories and the ceiling of the historic Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, the Coral Gables old city hall dome and the dome clouds in the historic Westin Colonnade Hotel also in Coral Gables.  She is the artist commissioned by Pompano Proud to enhance the Pompano Beach branch library and subsequently to commemorate the historic Hillsboro Lighthouse on the site of the Lighthouse Museum at the inlet.

Donna has designed and painted expansive murals for mega-yachts.  Her works have been featured in national and international magazines, including ShowBoats International and Haute Living. Her art was the centerpiece for an entire season on the TV show, Below Deck, where her mural was the dramatic focal point in the mega-yacht’s grand salon.

Donna works across mediums in oil, pastels and acrylics and she has received numerous exhibition honors. The broad span of her talent extends from the softness of a child done in pastels, to a lush rain forest spanning 3 decks of the master staircase of a mega-yacht, from the boisterous gusto of a Tuscan entourage to the whimsy of a simple bench transformed into a spring garden. For more than 50 years she has developed, refined and reinvented the techniques that make her works unique.  Today, you are likely to see her searching for nature subjects in local wildlife preserves.

Originally from New England and living in south Florida for the past 25 years, Donna started her first formal painting lessons at the age of 9. She had her first one-person show at age 12 and refined her talents at Paier College of Art in Connecticut, where she graduated with honors.

Donna serves on the board of The National League of American Pen Woman, is a member of the Broward Art Guild, ArtServe, Inc. and the Goldcoast Watercolor Society.
